Mutoh Drawing Table
Mutoh / Vemco Drafting machine scales NOSI am selling some of my original drafting machine arm scales. These came from a Mutoh drafting arm I sold a few years ago and just found when going through some storage here at the house. I know these are getting a little scarce with the use of CAD, but if your in the market these are still in the box's and have never been used. I believe they would be a vintage (New old stock) supply from the 1980's or so.Scales are clear, in plastic sleeve, cardboard insert and cardboard box. Should fit drafting machines; Mutah, Pentax, vemco, Max, Kent, Draftex (Fitted with 'Universal' chuck). You may need to square them up once on the machine, as they are new. (see instructions below)
I have seen these forsale from $20 to $58 each on ebay, etsy and . I am willing to part with them for $15 a piece, but the set has to go all together. I work in Binghamton and can setup times to meet during the day to 5:00, on the weekends I can meet in Whitney Point.
ARCHITECTS (IMPERIAL) GRADUATIONS The scales I have are sets of 12' and 18'
B-1: 1 1/2' & 3' to the foot
B-2: 1/2' & 1' to the foot
B-3: 3/8' & 3/4' to the foot
B-4: 3/8' & 3/4', 1 1/2' & 3' to the foot
B-5: 1/4' & 1/8' to the foot
B-6-OP: 1/2' & 1' and 1/4' & 1/8' to the foot
Squaring Drafting Machine Scales
The objective of squaring the scales is to achieve a parallel line (horizontal scale) and a line at 90 degrees (vertical scale). The horizontal scale must run parallel with the horizontal track.
The preferred method for squaring the scales is as follows:
Tape a sheet of paper (A2 size minimum) to the drawing board . Place the drafting head at the left hand edge of the paper about half way up. Lock the vertical brake lever. Place a fine pencil at the start of the horizontal scale rule and while keeping it in this position slide the machine to the right. Providing you maintain the position of the pencil the line you will draw must be parallel to the horizontal track. (It must be parallel because with the brake on the distance can't change between the two points).
Push the machine back to the left. You will find that your scale rule will not be parallel to this line. The way to adjust this scale so that it is parallel is to loosen the outer screw on the chuck plate (dome head screw).Only loosen this screw and no others. There is a slot in the chuck plate under this screw that allows adjustment. Move the scale until it is lined up with the line you have drawn. Tighten the screw. You now need the vertical scale to be at 90 degrees to this line.
Press the indexing button and rotate the drafting head clockwise until it clicks in at 90 degrees. Repeat the process with the short scale until it is also parallel to the drawn line. Once you return the drafting head to the normal zero position you will have achieved the objective of the horizontal scale being parallel to the drafting machine track and the vertical scale at 90 degrees to it.

Mutoh Drafting Table For Sale
Today I had to make a couple drawings for a project in the works. Much to my disappointment my Mutoh drafting machine got a flat tire. Well not actually a flat, but one of the rollers picked up a metal flake. I was able to disassemble the machine and remove the metal flake, but it has slightly distorted the rubber wheel. It still has a minor thump on every rotation as it moves up and down the board. The machine has 4 bearings with rubber rollers to guide the vertical movement. It would probably work with only 3 bearings, but I'd like to find a replacement if at all possible.
I can't find any model number on it anywhere, but it's identical to this one on e bay.

I don't know exactly how large the one in the picture is. Mine is on a 48' X 72' Mayline board. I bought it used over 20 years ago when the company I worked for switched to Auto Cad.
It seems Mutoh is no longer in the drafting machine business so I'm looking for a source for a manual, a parts list, and replacement parts. Does anyone have any information on these machines or anyone who still supports them?
